Ballet is a form of expression that is both aesthetically pleasing and technically demanding. It encompasses elements of beauty, grace, discipline, ambition, and sacrifice. The precise choreography that is often perceived as perfection on stage is the result of years of rigorous training, self-doubt, and dedication to the art form. Riederer's photographs challenge the conventional perception of ballet by delving beyond the polished surface to reveal the inner workings and struggles behind the perfect facade. This results in images of rare intensity and openness that convey more about the dancers than all their roles.
